Marc Soucy Honors His Past With Electrifying “Mayhem In Antartica”

In “Mayhem In Antartica,” Boston-based composer and keyboardist Marc Soucy delivers a sonic time capsule from 1983 that still pulses with urgency and imagination. Originally recorded live by his progressive trio Antartica featuring drummer Ray Lavigne and bassist Jeff Carano, this fiery instrumental captures the raw brilliance of a band ahead of its time.

The track is a live, no-overdubs performance captured in the stone cellar of a farmhouse in Dracut, Massachusetts, using just three room microphones. The atmosphere is electric: wild synth lines swirl, jazz-influenced basslines drive forward, and tightly controlled mayhem erupts with every twist. Through painstaking audio restoration in 2023 and 2025, Soucy has brought this hidden gem back to life, proving that authentic progressive rock never ages.

A partial tribute to Keith Emerson and the progressive giants of the '70s, “Mayhem In Antartica” is an exhilarating, genre-defying piece that cements Soucy’s reputation as a fearless composer. It’s the first in a series of archival releases honoring a formative era in his career. With this release, Marc not only preserves a precious musical legacy but also reaffirms the timeless power of live, passionate artistry. This is more than nostalgia, it’s a resurrection.
