Ooberfuse Gives Voice to the Vulnerable with "We Will Overcome"
London-based electro-pop duo Ooberfuse continues to use their music as an agent for change, with their latest track, "We Will Overcome". A stark call to resiliency and truth, the song addresses the urgent call of the fight against child exploitation and abuse in the Philippines and gives voice to the work of the People’s Recovery, Empowerment and Development Assistance Foundation (PREDA).
A mix of melancholic synth textures with uplifting melodies, "We Will Overcome" is a battle cry. Inspired by the courage of survivors and the tireless efforts of Father Shay Cullen (a four-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize), Ooberfuse uses their platform to break the cycle of silence and oppression.
The lyrics call upon the voices of children who have been rescued; children who have been given courage, strength, and empowerment through song and music after their trauma. Cherrie Anderson, vocalist and a native of the Philippines, is aware of the cultural obstacles that often impede victims from speaking out. Together with Hal St John, Ooberfuse creates an emotionally powerful song transforming suffering to hope and into action.
"We Will Overcome" serves as a reminder that music has the ability to bring change into existence. By collaborating with PREDA, Ooberfuse not only raises awareness but advocates for support around rescuing and rehabilitating children at risk.
