James Taupo Excites With Debut Single Don't You Lead Me On
Birmingham producer and multi-instrumentalist James Taupo is making an entrance with his debut single, Don't You Lead Me On. Combining soaring house beats with infectious melodies, it provides a very exciting preview of what Taupo is bringing to the electronic music scene. Although this is Taupo's first official single release, it maintains the kind of sounds that come across as very polished and precise, due to a mix of mentorship with legendary producer Steve Osborne (Radiohead, U2, The Cure) and the intricate mastering assistance of drum and bass artist Denveruk.
Don't You Lead Me On was primarily recorded in Taupo's bedroom studio, with the odd recording session in professional studios, most recently on Genelec and KRK speakers. Inspired by the sounds of Nathan Dawe, Joel Corry, and Calvin Harris, Taupo presents a club-ready anthem with emotional weight. Having been played at Lab 11 (one of Birmingham's premier rave venues) and received well, the track is due for venues in Liverpool and Bournemouth.
Along with his skills in production, Taupo is a Grade 8 saxophonist and a Grade 6 drummer. He has previously received a music scholarship and studied music production and music business at the University. Don't You Lead Me On is a confident, ambitious, and strong debut, which makes me excited to hear about his future projects in electronic music.
