Canisha’s “Save You From Yourself”: A Soulful Plea Rooted in Vulnerability and Strength

Melbourne-based artist Canisha’s latest release, “Save You From Yourself,” is a heartfelt and raw exploration of her deepest fears for a loved one facing the challenges of mental health and substance reliance. Emerging as an acoustic piece during Canisha’s participation in the Singing Our Futures mentorship program, this song evolved in the studio with producers Anthony Liddell and Jake Amy. Featuring the haunting backing vocals of Canisha’s mentor, Bumpy, the track is imbued with layers of soul, sincerity, and resilience, spotlighting Canisha’s nuanced artistry.

Canisha, a First Nations singer with a distinctive fusion of soul and pop, uses her music as a medium for emotive storytelling. "Save You From Yourself" holds a unique vulnerability as Canisha herself admits it’s the track that resonates most powerfully with her, bringing tears during live performances. It’s a song that speaks to those moments of helplessness when witnessing a loved one struggle, and Canisha’s expressive lyrics paint this emotional conflict with great clarity and compassion.

The Singing Our Futures program, founded by the Archie Roach Foundation alongside Culture is Life, has provided Canisha and other First Nations artists invaluable support and mentorship.

As a platform designed to nurture emerging voices, it reflects Uncle Archie Roach's commitment to storytelling as a powerful healing tool. Guided by industry leaders like Candice Lorrae, the program has empowered Canisha to channel her fears, hopes, and strength into this captivating track. Through “Save You From Yourself,” Canisha reminds listeners of the power of music to connect, uplift, and heal.
