SkyCall’s “Are You Ready Now?”: A Psychedelic Throwback with Timeless Emotion

Since the dissolution of French rock band SkyCall in 2023, frontman Fabrice Duval has been hard at work finalizing the tracks for their upcoming LP. Their latest single, “Are You Ready Now?”, is the third release, following Wendy and Amy. This track, heavily influenced by the psychedelic sounds of the ’70s, showcases Duval’s prowess as both a composer and a performer. 

SkyCall, originally formed in 2019 by Duval and Luc Erwin former members of the band Tax-Free along with drummer Didier Hoffmann, saw a lineup change in 2021 with Amanda S. stepping in on drums. Despite the group’s eventual breakup in 2023 to pursue solo projects, Duval has continued the SkyCall legacy, composing and recording “Are You Ready Now?” entirely on his own. With vocals, guitars, bass, and drums all performed by Duval, the track is a labor of love, further enhanced by mastering from Alexandros Chrysidis at Sierra Studios in Athens, Greece.

“Are You Ready Now?” delves into the theme of elusive love and emotional manipulation. The song narrates the tale of a man fascinated by a female gamer who enjoys creating uncertainty and inspiring fantasies in others. She refuses to make commitments or to be dominated, treating life as if it were a game of roulette, where the excitement of taking risks is more important than the end result. The song's psychedelic music enhances the story, engaging listeners in a musical experience that is both thrilling and ominous.

Duval’s ability to merge vintage psychedelic rock with a modern, reflective depth is what makes “Are You Ready Now?” so compelling. The swirling guitars and hypnotic rhythms draw listeners into a world where love is a dangerous game that can lead to madness when played with the wrong person.

SkyCall's latest release is a testament to Duval's creativity and resilience. Even with the band no longer together, “Are You Ready Now?” proves that SkyCall's music remains as impactful and relevant as ever, offering fans a glimpse of what's to come from their forthcoming LP.
