SALT's “I Hate You All”: A Raw Punk Anthem Full of Anger and Defiance
Los Angeles-based band SALT brings pure emotion and fury with their latest track, “I Hate You All.” The punk-rock quartet, led by husband-and-wife duo Robin and Sharon Woods, channels their frustrations into a cathartic anthem that is as rebellious as it is relatable. With Robin on guitar and Sharon delivering searing vocals, the track is a sonic outcry against societal frustrations, particularly abusive behavior aimed at their non-binary trans child. The song, featuring bandmates Simon Kettles and James King, is filled with rage yet grounded in deep, personal experiences.
Recorded partially at Banana Row Studios, with the rest done in their home studio, “I Hate You All” is entirely self-produced, allowing SALT to maintain complete creative control. The aggressive guitar riffs match the intensity of Sharon's raw, unapologetic vocal performance. The anger is palpable, especially in the biting middle section, a part so powerful they decided to include it only once, to leave a lasting impact. The song’s visceral energy and hard-hitting lyrics create a sense of defiance, perfect for anyone who’s ever felt the sting of unfair judgment or abuse.
Though the original title “Mystery Fuck” was toned down to “I Hate You All” for radio play, the song remains unapologetically blunt. Its rage is a response to an unsettling incident at Edinburgh’s Waverley train station, where a group of neds (Scottish slang for troublemakers) targeted their child. The rawness of the experience bleeds into the song, making it one of the angriest releases from SALT to date.
Having gained momentum with appearances on BBC 6's Craig Charles Show and a performance at the 2023 Scottish Lowlands Music Awards, SALT continues to forge its own path.
They proudly assert that they don't conform, and they're not concerned. "I Hate You All" showcases their do-it-yourself attitude and punk energy, making it essential for those who enjoy raw, emotionally intense music that tackles tough subjects.
